DAPER Hosts Student-Athlete First-Year Welcome Event

Cambridge, Mass. (September 16) -- The MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) recently held its First-Year Welcome Back event in the Johnson Ice Rink, where all first-year student-athletes were welcomed by the department.

The event was part of the department's Engineering Success program, which includes a number of exciting events throughout the 2016-17 academic year. You can also follow the Engineering Success program on Twitter at @MITEngSuccess.

With over 100 student-athletes in attendance, the event featured an introduction by the co-presidents of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (Veronika Jedryka - Swimming, Jennie Glerum - Volleyball), followed by some informational videos and a question and answer session with five upperclassmen. The first-year students had the opportunity to text their questions and they appeared on the screen, with the upperclassmen sharing their experiences as a student-athlete at MIT.

The event also featured dinner for the student-athletes and an opportunity for them to meet and socialize with their classmates prior to the start of the 2016-17 season.
