MIT Athletics To Stream Student-Athlete Excellence Banquet On Friday

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (May 16) – For the first time ever, MIT Athletics will be streaming its 31st annual Student-Athlete Excellence Banquet which will take place in Rockwell Cage beginning at 5:00 p.m. on Friday evening. The night will showcase the success of MIT's student-athletes and the success that the Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) has had over the past nine months. Friday's banquet will begin with words from Julie Soriero, DAPER's Department Head and Director of Athletics, Suzy Nelson, the Vice President and Dean for Student Life at MIT, as well as student guest speaker Devin Williams from the MIT women's lacrosse team. Then the annual department awards will be handed out by those head coaches, whose respective student-athletes have earned them. Below is a list of awards in the order in which they will be given. Varsity Club Award - To the Outstanding Male and Female Freshmen Athletes of the Year

Philip A. Trussell '56 Prize - To a Male and Female Undergraduate Student-Athlete who Demonstrates Skill, Sportsmanship and Levity

Admiral Edward L. Cochrane Award - To the Male Senior who has Shown the Highest Qualities of Humility, Leadership and Inspiration in Intercollegiate Athletics

Pewter Bowl Award - To the Female Senior who has Shown the Highest Qualities of Inspiration and Leadership in Contributing to Women's Athletics

Harold J. Pettegrove Award – In Recognition of Outstanding Service to Intramural Athletics

Malcom G. Kispert Award – To the Male and Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year

Betsy Schumacker Woman Athlete of the Year Award - For Excellence in Athletic Competition by a Female Undergraduate

Howard W. Johnson Award - Male Senior Athlete of the Year

The banquet will wrap up with the recognition of each team's Most Valuable Player(s), the recognition of our four-year student-athletes and closing remarks from Associate Director of Athletics, John Benedick.
