Hutcheson To Leave MIT After Eight Years

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After eight years of service to the MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER), Summer Hutcheson has announced that she will be leaving MIT at the end of July. Hutcheson, the department’s Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics/Department Head as well as an assistant coach with the Engineer’s cross country and track and field programs, will be taking on a new role as the Associate Director of Athletics at Mount Holyoke College on July 29.

“I am thrilled to be joining Mount Holyoke's Department of Athletics and Physical Education,” Hutcheson said. “The staff and student-athletes have been so welcoming, and I look forward to working with everyone to continue building upon the positive momentum that already exists within the department.”

A member of the DAPER staff since 2005, Hutcheson has played a key role for as both an administrator and coach. As the Special Assistant to the Director of Athletics/Department Head she has been responsible for a number of administrative areas, including supervising the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and oversight of assigned budget areas and the overall management of the management of the office. Hutcheson also organizes meetings and special events for the department, as well as managing community service projects.  She also coordinates the department’s external review every two years by its Visiting Committee.

Hutcheson has also served as an assistant coach with the MIT cross country and track and field programs. She assists with the development and implementation of cross country, sprint, middle-distance and distance workouts, assists with meet organization, serves as a mentor for the student-athletes and conducts on-campus visits with prospective student-athletes.

At Mount Holyoke, Hutcheson will be responsible for oversight of student-athlete leadership development and programming; compliance and eligibility; admissions, recruiting and retention; and campus relations. Additionally, she will work in close collaboration with student-athletes, coaches, the faculty athletics representative and class deans, as well as other key constituents on campus and throughout the region.
