Wu won at both singles and doubles in MIT’s conference finale against Wheaton. At singles, Wu won 6-2, 7-5 pushing his singles record to 8-3 in dual matches and won in singles play for the seventh consecutive match. At doubles, he paired with Larry Pang to win an 8-3 decision. Pang and Wu improved their second doubles record to 8-1 on the season and won for the fourth straight dual match at the position. The pair was named NEWMAC men’s tennis doubles team of the week.

Bryan Macomber

Macomber set an Institute record on Saturday by hitting four doubles in a 14-6 MIT win over Coast Guard. Macomber scored four times and also drove in a run. On Sunday, Macomber belted a three-run homer to left field. For the week, Macomber hit .333 with five doubles, six runs scored and four RBIs.

Wyatt Ubellacker

Wyatt Ubellacker, Swimming and Diving

Ubellacker set an MIT record with 7 All-America honors at the NCAA DIII National Championships. He placed 3rd overall in the 100 butterfly, setting a new MIT and NEWMAC record. He earned All-America in the 50 free with a 5th place finish and in the 100 free with an 8th place showing. He was a member of the 400 free relay that placed 2nd overall, the best result for an MIT relay. He also helped the 200 free relay to a 4th place finish and the 800 free relay to an 8th place showing. All three relay teams set new MIT and NEWMAC records.

Portia Jones

Jones was outstanding at the NCAA Division III Championship over the weekend, earning a pair of individual All-America honors while also taking part in an award winning relay. She has now earned 10 All-America accolades in her career. The junior came within one one-hundredth of a second away from capturing a National Championship in the 55-meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 8.11 seconds. Jones also took fourth in the 400 meters and was part of MIT's 4x400 meter relay that placed fifth. Jones' performance helped MIT capture third overall as a team.

Patrick Marx

Marx was involved in a pair of NCAA qualifying performances at the Valentine’s Invitational at Boston University over the weekend. The sophomore reached the NCAA provisional standard in the 800, with a time of 1:52.49, the second fastest in program history. He placed 11th overall and first among Division III runners at the meet. Marx was also part of the record-setting Distance Medley Relay group that achieved an automatic qualifying time and finished in third place. Marx ran the 800-meter leg of the relay in 1:52.4, as the group broke the previous MIT record by just over a second.

Beth Stavely

Senior Beth Stavely finished her final regular season meet with an explosive performance at the Wheaton Invitational. Stavely dove 11 times and swept both of the diving competitions. On the 1 meter board, she posted a score of 20.97, then outdid herself on the 3-meter apparatus, winning with a score of 465.70. Both scores were good enough to qualify Stavely for the NCAA Championship competition. Stavely will end a prolific diving career at MIT by competing at NEWMAC Championships February 18-20 and then at NCAA Championships March 23-26th in Knoxville, Tennessee

Nigel Kojimoto

Kojimoto collected the Gold medal in the smallbore portion of the Bean Pot, as the highest individual scorer, as well as Silver in air rifle, to help MIT finish just 50 points behind Wentworth Institute of Technology in overall team scoring. Kojimoto registered five shots at least 94 points in six smallbore attempts on his way to a score of 563 points. That score paired with his 567 in air rifle gave Kojimoto the highest individual combined point total of all shooters at the meet.

Matt Hohenberger

Hohenberger compiled 70 kills, a .419 hitting percentage, 12 blocks, and 8 aces in a 5-1 week for nationally-ranked No. 8 MIT which resulted in Tournament MVP honors. He posted 13 kills, a .600 hitting percentage, 2 blocks, and an ace in a sweep of Newbury College. Against No. 7 Baruch College, he notched 10 kills, 3 blocks, and 2 aces before registering 9 kills, a .692 hitting performance, and 3 blocks versus Elms. He totaled 21 kills, 4 digs, and 3 aces in a five-set tilt with host New Paltz and went on to compiled 17 kills, 3 blocks, and 3 aces against No. 14 Emmanuel.

In a 1-1 week for MIT, Rachel Hunt compiled 20 rebounds, 17 points, 11 blocks, five steals, and four assists. While playing every minute in a 56-50 loss to Wheaton College, she registered 14 rebounds, nine points, five blocks, one steal, and an assist. Hunt then tallied eight points, six rebounds, six blocks, four steals, and three assists in a 42-34 victory over Mount Holyoke College.

Colby Dunn

Colby Dunn, Swimming and Diving

Colby Dunn was one of four Engineers to score multiple event wins in a 219-78 victory over Wheaton College. He sprinted to victories in the 50 Free (21.15) and 100 Free (46.99) after starting out the meet as part of the winning team in the 200 medley relay, with a time of 1:35.97. Dunn closed off the meet in similar fashion, joining other Engineers to capture the final event of the night, the 400 Free relay, in 3:15 flat.

Nick Davis

Davis had an outstanding week for MIT, averaging 15.7 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 72% from the field in three Tech wins. The freshman exploded for a career-high 29 points, on 12-of-13 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds, in a 92-68 win over UMass-Boston to start the week. He also added 11 points and four boards against Lesley University and chipped in with seven points, three rebounds and three assists in a one-point win at Salem State. The Engineers finished up the first semester of play with a 9-1 record and the No. 19 ranking in the country.

Nigel Kojimoto had an outstanding performance against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Wentworth Institute of Technology over the weekend. The junior led all shooters in the smallbore portion of the competition, posting a score of 559.  All six of his shots registered at least 90 points, including a pair of 97-point attempts. Kojimoto was also impressive with the air rifle, finishing with a score of 554, as the Engineers swept Mass. Maritime in both guns.

Sophomore Will Tashman was named the NEWMAC Player of the Week after he averaged 19 points, 9.5 rebounds, five assists and 1.5 steals to lead the Engineers past Curry College and Suffolk University last week. Tashman scored a game-high 22 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 helpers in the 86-47 win over Suffolk on Saturday. He added 16 points, 10 rebounds and five assists on Tuesday as MIT downed Curry, 90-63. Tashman also knocked down 20-of-23 free throws while shooting 45% from the field as MIT improved to 3-1 on the season.

Anna Merrifield, Basketball

Through the first three games of the season, Anna Merrifield has averaged 10.7 rebounds and 6.7 points per game while totaling six assists, three steals, and two blocks. She opened the year with 11 boards, 10 points, two steals, and a block at Wentworth Institute of Technology. Merrifield chipped in four points, four rebounds, and a steal against Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts at the Golden Bear Hoop Classic. The next day, she racked up 17 rebounds, a game-high five assists, and drained a clutch three-pointer that helped secure the Engineers' victory over Wilkes University.

Paul Welle, Cross Country

Paul Welle was instrumental in helping MIT capture the NCAA New England Division III Championship for the first time in program history this past weekend. Tech's top overall finisher, Welle placed sixth in a field of over 330 runners with a time of 25:57.7 on the eight-kilometer course. It was the best finish by an MIT runner in the Regional Championship since Ben Schmeckpeper won the race in 2003 and 2004.

Robin Shin took first overall in the women’s sabre competition on Saturday at The Big One Fencing Tournament at Smith College. The event featured individual competition in a field of participants from nearly twenty schools, including several Division I and Division II programs. Shin was victorious over fellow Engineer Molly Kozminsky, who placed second to give the Engineers a 1-2 showing. The individual victory at The Big One is a great start for Shin and the Engineers as they head into their first conference team meet next weekend.

Roy Wedge helped lead MIT to the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men’s Cross Country Championship on Saturday, the 13th consecutive league title for the Engineers. As the top overall finisher in the race, Wedge was named the NEWMAC Runner of the Year, as well as the conference Rookie of the Year. The freshman’s time of 26:08.37 was almost four seconds better than the second-place finisher.

Jenny Li

In a 2-2 week for MIT, Jenny Li totaled 34 kills, 19 digs, and nine blocks while being selected to the Hall of Fame Tournament All-Tournament Team. She posted one dig in the first set of a sweep of Wheaton College. Facing a trio of regionally-ranked opponents at the Hall of Fame Tournament, Li led off the weekend with nine kills, six digs, and two blocks in a 3-0 loss to No. 6 Middlebury College. She then registered 10 kills and four blocks in a 3-1 victory over No. 7 Brandeis University before compiling 15 kills, 10 digs, and three blocks in a 3-1 loss to No. 2 Springfield College.

Philip Crain

Junior Philip Crain led the MIT sailing team to a seventh place finish this weekend at an intersectional regatta of twenty squads, hosted by Navy. Crain sailed his boat to a third place finish in the final of four divisions. He placed in the top six in 16 of the 20 heats raced over the two-day regatta, including crossing the finish line first in four of the rounds. He amassed just 95 points, putting him comfortably in third place and just three back of the second place boat from Hobart and Williams Smith Colleges.

Jessica Oleinik broke the Institute record for career goals as MIT picked up a pair of conference wins. She earned the assist for what proved to be the game-winning goal in the Engineers' 4-2 victory over WPI. Oleinik registered two goals, the game-winner and the eventual record-breaker, as MIT topped previously undefeated Wheaton College, 3-1.

For the second week in a row, freshman Lauren Quisenberry was named the NEWMAC Singles Player of the Week. She went 3-0 in singles play, including a win over defending Division III National Champion Julia Browne of Tufts. To start the week, Quisenberry defeated Sarah Whitaker (Babson) 6-1, 6-0, then topped Browne, 2-6, 7-6 (4), 10-5. She finished off the week by defeating Narhee Hahn (Mount Holyoke) 6-0, 6-1.

John Presis

John Preis tallied six goals as MIT kicked off its Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Northern Division schedule this past weekend with wins over Fordham University (13-10) and Iona College (11-8). On Saturday night, Preis scored twice against Fordham. The following morning, he registered four goals with his final marker sparking a string of five unanswered fourth-quarter tallies that gave MIT the come-from-behind victory.

Meghan Wright had a solid outing in net last week as she did not give up a goal in two games. She collected four saves in a 1-0 win over UMass Dartmouth and repeated this performance in a 1-0 victory at NEWMAC foe Clark University.

In MIT's 21-13 win over Becker College on Saturday, Marcel Sanchez rushed for 154 yards, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. His longest run of the day was 28 yards, which helped set up the Engineers' final touchdown of the game. For his efforts, Sanchez was named to the New England Football Conference (NEFC) Honor Roll.

In a 2-0 week, Keri Dixon posted nine saves and a 1.50 goals against average. She tallied seven saves in MIT's season-opening 4-2 victory over New England College. Dixon then turned away two shots in the Engineers' 2-1 win against UMass Dartmouth.
