James Sica begins his first year as the communications, promotions and marketing assistant coach in 2017. In addition, Sica will serve as the assistant coach for the MIT men's and women's swimming and diving teams. Sica comes to MIT from Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.).
Sica served as an assistant coach at Carnegie Mellon for the past two seasons, helping guide a number of student-athletes to NCAA Championship appearances and All-America honors. Prior to his time with the Tartans, Sica was a volunteer assistant coach at nearby Harvard University, as well as the associate head coach of the Cambridge Master's Swim Club.
Sica also coached at Ithaca College (N.Y.) for two seasons while completing his Master's degree in sport and exercise with a concentration in sport psychology in 2014. A 2012 undergraduate from Ithaca with degree in writing and English, he was also a member of the Bombers swimming team who was voted as the team captain as a senior. As a swimming, Sica competed in the breaststroke, IM and distance freestyle events.
