Harold W. Pierce Boathouse

The Harold W. Pierce Boathouse was dedicated on September 9, 1966 to serve as the new home for MIT rowing and still rates as one of the jewels of MIT's athletic complex. The facility also boasts 64 ergometers and a fleet of over 50 shells including eights, fours, pairs and singles housed in four boat bays.

Directions to Pierce Boathouse (409 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA 02139)

From North or South: Take I-93 to Exit 26 toward Storrow Drive. Merge onto Storrow Drive /Route 28 South. Follow Storrow Drive along the river to the Massachusetts Avenue exit (on the left). Take right at end of exit, and turn left onto Memorial Drive immediately after crossing the Charles River. Boathouse is on the left.

From West: Follow Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) East to Exit 18. At fork in road bear right (toward Cambridge). Cross Charles River. Take right at end of bridge onto Memorial Drive. Boathouse is on the right before Massachusetts Avenue.

BUSES AND TRAILERS: Due to severe height restrictions, trailers are not permitted on Storrow Drive or portions of Memorial Drive. Follow the directions below.

PLEASE familiarize yourself with the route by looking on Google or Apple satellite view before attempting to follow these directions.

From North or South: Take I-93 to intersection with Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) West.

Follow I-90 West to Exit 18 for Allston / Brighton / Cambridge then follow directions below.

From West: Take Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90) to Exit 18 for Allston / Brighton / Cambridge.

Just after the tolls, at the fork in road, bear right toward Cambridge.

Cross the river on River Street.

As soon as you cross the river turn right onto Memorial Drive.

After the Starbucks on the left, take the second entrance to the parking lot. This will be the entrance just before the Micro Center. Turn left into the parking lot. 

Turn immediately right just after the Micro Center.  You will be going around the back of the building.

Exiting the parking lot go straight across Magazine Street onto Granite Street.  Be very careful, as you will pass a school and playground on your right.  This is a very narrow street.

Turn right at the light onto Brookline Street.

Enter the roundabout and go ¾ the way around. Go straight at the traffic light, and exit up onto the ramp to Memorial Drive East, parallel to the river.

Pass the BU Boathouse on your right and continue on about 1 mile to the MIT Pierce boathouse on the right.  We are the first building on the waterside after passing BU.
