Rifle Splits with Coast Guard, Finishes Regular Season Strong

NEW LONDON, Conn. – The MIT rifle team defeated the host U.S. Coast Guard Academy in smallbore and just missed in sweeping the day’s outing when it was edged out by three points in air rifle in its last regular season competition on Saturday. The Engineers won the smallbore tilt by a count of 2177-2099, while falling in the air match, 2203-2200. Tech now stands at 12-3 in smallbore and 13-3 in air rifle.

The Cardinal and Gray got solid contributions all around. Nigel Kojimoto and Emily Houston led Tech in smallbore with scores of 555 and 548, respectively, while Jennifer Paek and Elizabeth Phillips rounded out the scoring team with tallies of 539 and 535. Timothy Jenks (472) and Christian Valledor (467) also competed.

Houston led Tech in the air match with a score of 565, as the scoring team was rounded out by Kojimoto (548), Justine Li (544), and Paek (539). Phillips, meanwhile, shot a new personal high of 546, while Matthew Pires chipped in with a 483.

MIT will next compete at the Mid Atlantic Conference (MAC) Championships at Coast Guard on March 6.
