MIT Finishes 11th in Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Rankings
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second year in a row MIT placed 11th among all Division III schools in the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) annual Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The Engineers’ Institute-best finish once again registered as the highest performance by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).

Six Engineers Tabbed All-Academic by Mid-Atlantic Conference
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Six members of the MIT rifle squad were recently named to the All-Academic team by the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC). Rebecca Gould, Timothy Jenks, Nigel Kojimoto, Giulia Pantalone, Elizabeth Phillips and Lionel Sotomayor earned the distinction from the conference. Additionally, Gould captured a spot on the MAC All-Rookie team, after a tremendous campaign in her first year of collegiate shooting.

Rifle Drops a Pair of Close Decisions to Coast Guard Academy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In its final competition of the regular season, the MIT rifle team traveled to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and suffered a pair of narrow set-backs in both the smallbore and air rifle portions of the meet. The Engineers finished just 25 points behind the hosts in smallbore, 2114-2091, and were defeated 2194-2135 in air. Elizabeth Phillips led the way for Tech in both guns and had the second highest air rifle score in the meet.

Tech Shooters Take Second at Bean Pot
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the strength of a tremendous performance by junior Nigel Kojimoto, the MIT rifle team finished second out of four squads at the Bean Pot competition held at MIT over the weekend. Kojimoto collected the Gold medal in the smallbore portion of the event, as the highest individual scorer, as well as Silver in air rifle, as Tech finished just 50 points behind Wentworth Institute of Technology in overall team scoring.

Rifle Easily Handles Mass. Maritime, Falls to Wentworth
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT rifle squad competed against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and Wentworth Institute of Technology over the weekend at the DuPont shooting range. The Engineers cruised to a comfortable sweep of MMA, outshooting the Buccaneers 2160-2140 in air rifle and 2140-1983 in smallbore, while suffering a pair of narrow setbacks at the hands of Wentworth. Wentworth beat out the Cardinal and Gray with scores of 2186 in air and 2166 in smallbore.

Engineers Fall to Navy
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT rifle squad hosted the U.S. Naval Academy in a match over the weekend at the DuPont shooting range. Despite a season-best performance in the air rifle portion, the Engineers were unable to come away with a victory, falling in both guns to the Midshipmen. Tech was outscored, 2304-2183 in air and 2257-2138 in the smallbore category.

Rifle Squad Splits with John Jay
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Facing the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in its second home competition of the fall, the MIT rifle team earned a split thanks in large part to a balanced performance in the smallbore portion. The Engineers received strong showings from all four shooters to outscore John Jay, 2118-2044, in smallbore. Tech suffered a narrow set back in air rifle, 2183-2170.

Rifle Opens Season with Split Versus Wentworth
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT rifle team opened its 2010-11 campaign against the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Saturday. The Engineers were able to come away with a split against the Leopards’ coed team, capped by a close victory in the Smallbore competition, 2149-2143. Tech fell in the air rifle portion of the match by a score of 2210-2161. MIT also picked up a win over the Wentworth women’s team in air rifle, 2161-1956.

MIT Announces 2010-11 Winter Sport Schedules
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — MIT announced today its team schedules for the 2010-11 winter season. Eleven teams will compete, beginning with the rifle squad, whose season kicks off on October 2. A number of teams, including the men’s basketball, men’s and women’s swimming & diving and men’s and women’s track & field are coming off extremely successful seasons, which culminated in appearances at their respective NCAA Championships. The women’s basketball, men’s and women’s fencing, squash and men’s volleyball schedules were also released.

MIT Ranks Fourth Among All NCAA Institutions in 2010 NCSA Collegiate Power Rankings
CHICAGO, Ill. – The National Collegiate Scouting Association (NCSA) recently announced its eighth annual Collegiate Power Rankings. Following another tremendous year, the Engineers were listed fourth overall in securing their highest ranking in the history of the report. The NCSA Athletic Recruiting’s Collegiate Power Rankings assess the academic and athletics standards of all NCAA athletic programs across the country. The Power Rankings were developed to help prospective student athletes and their families evaluate the particular strengths of the top colleges and universities at the Division I, II and III levels.
