CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Closing out its regular season by hosting the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship, MIT's rifle team came up with a strong outing to wind up the 2011-12 campaign. Paired against a Penn State squad in air rifle competition, the Engineers came away with a 2249-2229 victory over the Nittany Lions.
Junior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) led the way for MIT, scoring at least a 94 in all six of her rounds to finish with a 573, a season-high score, as well as the seventh-best among all competitors. Just three points behind Phillips was senior Nigel Kojimoto (Honolulu, Hawaii), who fired a 570 that was good for 10th overall. Phillips was close behind with her effort of 556, tying her for the second best score of the day. de Bruijn added a 539, while junior Timothy Jenks (The Woodlands, Texas) carded a 525.
