Phillips, Wright Earn Postseason HonorsCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) and freshman Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) earned postseason honors from the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference as the league announced is annual end of the season awards. Phillips was named first team all-conference in air rifle and Wright garnered a spot on the all-rookie squad. Phillips is just the third shooter from MIT to earn all-conference honors from the MAC, while Wright is the first Engineer to be named to the all-rookie team.
Phillips Captures Air Rifle Title at MAC ChampionshipsLEXINGTON, Va. - It was a fine end of the season for the MIT rifle team as senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) took the individual title in air rifle and led the Engineers to the top team score in air rifle and the second best score in small bore at the Mid-Atlantic Rifle Conference Championship held at VMI. Phillips posted a 586 in air rifle to top the field by 14 points.
MIT Rifle Edges Coast GuardNEW LONDON, Conn. – In its last competition before the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference championship, the MIT Rifle team prepared with a match at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. The Engineers combined score of 4,427 was enough to edge past host Coast Guard, which fired a total of 4,404.
MIT Rifle Takes Second at Annual Beanpot MatchCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing for the first time since early December, the MIT Rifle team hosted its annual Beanpot competition at the MIT Shooting Center on Friday and Saturday. Shooting against a seven-team field that included No. 17 Akron, the Engineers wound up second overall with an overall score of 4,399. Akron was first with 4,556 points, with Penn State taking third with 4,388 and Coast Guard fourth with a total of 4,301.
Phillips Named MAC Air Rifle Shooter of the MonthCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) of the MIT rifle team was recently recognized by the Mid Atlantic Rifle Conference (MAC) as its Air Rifle Shooter of the Month for October. It is the first MAC Shooter of the Month award for Phillips during her career and the first for an Engineer since January of 2009.
MIT Rifle Edges WentworthCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing for the first time in a month, the MIT Rifle team ended the 2012 portion of its 2012-13 schedule with a victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a match in which only air rifle was contested. MIT took the top three individual positions as the Engineers came away with a 2,258-2,107 victory.
Rifle Sinks SUNY MaritimeCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT continued its strong start to the 2012-12 rifle season today as the Engineers shot their way past SUNY Maritime. MIT won both the smallbore and air rifle completions, with the combined score of 4,436 easily outdistancing Maritime’s score of 4,062. Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) also continued her strong shooting this season, putting up the high score for the day in both disciplines.
MIT Rifle Rolls Past University of the SciencesCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT’s rifle team was back on the range today, taking on the University of the Sciences at the MIT Rifle Range. The Engineers won the smallbore competition by 103 points and then rolled in the air rifle portion of the match to come away with a victory by a final combined score of 4,434-4,194. With the win MIT improved to 2-1 on the season.
Rifle Drops Match Against Rose HulmanCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After starting the season with a victory yesterday, the MIT rifle team saw its record evened today as the Engineers dropped a decision to Rose Hulman by a final of 4,414-4,372. Senior Elizabeth Phillips (Anchorage, Alaska) had an outstanding outing for the Engineers, posting the top scores of the day in both smallbore and air rifle.
Rifle Opens 2012-13 Season With a Victory Over John JayCAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT opened the 2012-13 rifle season today, gaining a win over John Jay. The Engineers totaled 2,204 points over the smallbore and air rifle competitions, with their competitors finishing with a total of 2,119.
