PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Competing at the University of the Sciences for a second straight day, the MIT rifle team picked up two more wins against the Devils, this time downing their women's team by a combined score of 4,290-3,908. Senior Kaiying Liao (Issaquah, Wash.) won the air rifle and was second in the small bore events to help the Engineers to the wins.
As she did on Saturday, sophomore Sarah Wright (Christchurch, New Zealand) again led the way in small bore with a 546, followed closely by Liao with her effort of 543. Sophomore Helen Liu (Cortland, N.Y.) was third for the Engineers bettering her Saturday score by 45 points for a new season-high of 527. Sophomore Abra Shen (Toronto, Ontario) wrapped up the scoring with a 496.
Much as it was on Saturday, the air rifle competition was a close one between Wright and Liao. Liao matched her 567 from the day before with Wright just behind her with a 564. Selina Dao led USciences and finished third overall with a 550. Shen was third for MIT with her 526, with Freshman Kevin Ng (Coral Springs, Fla.) just behind her with a 521.
MIT will return home for its next action, hosting John Jay, SUNY Maritime and Wentworth on Saturday, Nov. 2 starting at 9:00 a.m.
