MIT Rifle Secures Narrow Sweep Over Coast Guard

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT followed up last week's rousing victory in the Bean Pot with a tremendous victory over the U.S. Coast Guard Academy on Saturday. The Engineers, who are 10-3 in smallbore and 8-3 in air rifle on the season, downed Coast Guard in the aggregate by just 16 points. MIT scored a 2186-2181 decision in smallbore, while finishing ahead of the Bears in air, 2241-2230.

Senior Anton Katz and freshman Emily Houston tied for first in air as each competitor posted a score of 579. Katz finished ahead on the final two target cards to pull even. Senior Nathan Pfaff finished fourth overall and third for MIT with a total of 569. Freshmen Jennifer Paek and Sarah Miles continued to improve, posting season-best scores of 530 and 525, respectively.

In smallbore, Katz paced the entire field with a score of 566. The senior captain finished 12 points ahead of Houston, who closed in second for the Engineers. Pfaff tied for fourth with a score of 550, while Jacob Latcham capped Tech's scoring contingent with a total of 516. England exchange student Vidushi Tekriwal also competed against the Bears, totaling 516 in air rifle.
