CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman Emily Houston shot match high's in both smallbore and air as the MIT rifle team opened the season with dominating victories over Mass Maritime and Wentworth.
Anton Katz finished second overall in both guns, totaling 549 in smallbore and 571 in air. Houston was tremendous in her first collegiate competition, scoring 99 on her first target card in the prone stage of smallbore en route to a total of 569.
Rounding out Tech's scoring contingent were Wes McKinney and sophomore Jacob Latcham. McKinney fired 520 in smallbore, which was the fourth highest score on the day, while Latcham's total of 519 in air ranked fourth-best on Saturday.
The Engineers finished with a team score of 2169 in air and 2150 in smallbore. Wentworth closed second in both guns with totals of 1939 in each discipline. MIT returns to action on Oct. 14 as the Cardinal and Gray host long time rival The University of the Sciences in Philadelphia.
