BUZZARDS BAY, Mass. - The MIT rifle team traveled to Mass Maritime Saturday to compete against the Buccaneers' co-ed squad and came away with its fourth consecutive shoulder-to-shoulder match victory to open the 2005 campaign. The Engineers' smallbore unit of Taylor Barton, Anton Katz, Jake Latcham and Nathan Pfaff set a new team-high for the season to pace the win.
MIT shot 2167 to Maritime's 1923 in smallbore, while the air rifle team of Barton, Katz, Pfaff, and Wes McKinney dominated MMA's co-ed lineup, 2166 to 1896, to keep the Cardinal and Gray undefeated in both guns.
Personal records were abound in Saturday's victory as new shooting new highs were recorded by Jonathan Barnham in both guns; Anton Katz in both guns; Jake Lacham in air; Wes McKinney in smallbore; and Nathan Pfaff smallbore. Katz was the top marksman on the day, shooting a match-best 584 in air and 578 in smallbore. Pfaff finished just off Anton's clip in smallbore with a score of 561.
On Saturday morning, October 29, the MIT rifle team will host national power house Navy.
