MIT Rifle Falls for the First Time This Season
Oct. 28, 2006
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT suffered its first shoulder-to-shoulder defeat of the season on Saturday, falling to VMI in both smallbore and air rifle. The match was close in both guns, but a one-two finish in smallbore and a strong attack in air lifted the Keydets to victory.
JP Niforakis and CM Kosecki posted the top two scores on the day in smallbore. Niforakis totaled 569 while Kosecki posted a 565 en route to a 2200-2167 advantage in the team scoring. MIT finished just back with senior Anton Katz finishing with a score of 559, one point better than rookie teammate Emily Houston. Katz authored the only perfect target card over the weekend, scoring his first 100 of the season in the prone position.
The Engineers fell in air, 2234-2213, as MIT couldn't match VMI in the fourth position. The Engineers did secure the top score in the event behind Houston's total of 573. Katz finished in a tie for second with the Keydets' Niforakis after firing a 569. Nathan Pfaff also performed well for the Cardinal and Gray in air, finishing fourth overall with a total of 563.
