CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The 2013-14 edition of the MIT coed sailing team provided three entries in its season-opening Midweek Firefly Invite on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers, currently ranked No. 17 in the latest Sperry – Top Sider Poll, finished ninth, 11th, and 12th as they also battled with Northeastern University and No. 10 Tufts University.
Sophomore Cali Warner (Dartmouth, Mass.) and junior Christina Wettersten (Palo Alto, Calif.) were seventh in two rotations, placed ninth in the last two rounds, and finished 11th in their second outing to rank ninth overall. Sophomore Beckett Colson (Weston, Mass.) and senior Angelique Nehmzow (Hong Kong, Hong Kong) finished 11th as they claimed seventh place in the fourth round and produced a pair of ninth-place performances. Sophomore Jamila Smith-Dell (Cambridge, Mass.) and classmate Alissa Borshchenko (Brooklyn, N.Y.) rounded out MIT in 12th place courtesy of a 10th place finish in the second rotation along with a ranking of 11th in the first and fourth races.
The Engineers return to action during the weekend of September 13-14. They will host the two-day Toni Deutsch Regatta in addition to traveling to the Harry Anderson Trophy at Yale, the Pine Trophy at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and the FJ Invite at Harvard.
