  • Coed Sailing Qualifies for Nationals With Seventh Place Finish at New England Championship

    Cambridge, Mass. (April 30) - The MIT coed sailing team qualified for the 2018 ICSA Coed National Championship scheduled for late May with their seventh place finish at the New England Coed Championship over the weekend. Additionally, the women's team placed fourth at the Team Race National Invitational they were hosting here in Cambridge.
  • Women’s Sailing Qualifies for Nationals with Sixth Place Finish at Reed Trophy

    Cambridge, Mass. (April 23) - The MIT women’s sailing team, ranked No. 13 in the latest Sailing World Collegiate rankings, qualified for the 2018 ICSA Women’s National Championship scheduled for late May with their sixth place finish at the Reed Trophy over the weekend. Additionally, the coed team took third at the Boston Dinghy Club Challenge Cup and ninth at the Morris Trophy.
  • B Division Powers Sailing To Fifth Place at Thompson Trophy

    Cambridge, Mass. (April 16) - This week, the MIT sailing team competed in four different regattas. The Engineers hosted the Oberg Trophy where they finished 13th and also the Midweek Firefly on Thursday where they finished second and third. The team also went on the road where MIT took fifth at the Thompson Trophy and 12th at the Presidents Trophy.

    Cambridge, Mass. (April 9) - The MIT sailing team competed in three regattas this weekend, highlighted by a seventh place finish at the New England Team Race Championship and a fifth place finish by the women’s program at the Emily Wick Trophy.

    Cambridge, Mass. (April 2) - The No. 6 ranked MIT coed sailing team and the No. 19 ranked MIT women’s sailing team competed at three regattas this weekend which featured some of the nation’s best teams including No. 1 Roger Williams, No. 2 Hobart & William Smith and No. 3 Yale. The Engineers came away with a fifth place finish at the Lynne Marchiando Team Race at home and eighth overall at both the Dellenbaugh Women’s Trophy and the Boston University Trophy.
  • Sailing Competes at Three Team Race Invites Over Weekend

    Cambridge, Mass. (March 26) - The MIT sailing team competed in three team race regattas over the week as the Engineers finished fourth at the Boston University Team Race and eighth at both the Friis Trophy hosted by Roger Williams and the Duplin Trophy hosted by Tufts.

    Cambridge, Mass. (March 19) - The MIT sailing team had another great weekend of results as the Engineers finished second at both the Vietor Trophy and the Southern New England Team Race Invite and then placed ninth at the Geiger Trophy.

    Cambridge, Mass. (March 12) - The MIT sailing team continued its strong start to the spring season as they took second place at both the MIT Team Race Invitational and the Rudkin Team Race Invitational this weekend.
  • Sailing Shines In Spring Debut at Harvard and Brown

    Cambridge, Mass. (March 5) - The No. 5 coed sailing team and the No. 10 women's sailing team opened their respective spring seasons with strong performances in team racing events. The coed team claimed first at the Sharpe Trophy, while the women's team was the runner-up at the Harvard Women's Team Race Invite. Both regattas were just one day events, due to the poor weather.
  • Coed Sailing Team Finishes Third; Women Take Seven at Atlantic Coast Championships

    Cambridge, Mass. (November 13) - The MIT sailing team finished their fall season at the Atlantic Coast Championships as the coed team took third place and the women’s team took seventh place overall.
  • Coed Sailing Wins Schell Trophy, Women Place Sixth At Urn Trophy as Both Qualify for ACC's!

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 29) - The MIT sailing team had a very impressive showing this weekend at the New England Fall Championships. The coed team earned first place at the Schell Trophy, the women's team rallied for a sixth-place finish at the Victorian Coffee Urn and the freshmen placed tenth at the Nickerson Trophy. As a result, both the coed and the women's teams have qualified for the fall Atlantic Coast Championships which will take place in two weeks. A year ago, the coed team won the Atlantic Coast Championship for the first time in program history.
  • Sailing Competes In Five Regattas This Weekend

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 23) - The MIT sailing team competed in five regattas late last week and over the weekend including in the Midweek Firefly, the Oberg Trophy, the Hoyt Trophy, the Central Series VI and the Mrs. Hurst Bowl. The Engineers had a top team finish of eighth which came at the Hoyt Trophy. Going into the weekend, the coed team was ranked No. 6 and the women’s team was ranked No. 13 in the country,
  • Sailing Finishes Fifth at New England Match Race Championship

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 16) - The MIT sailing team competed in its first NEISA Fall Championship this weekend where the Engineers place fifth out of eight teams at the Match Race Championship at the Corinthian Yacht Club. Additionally, MIT placed fifth at the Captain Hurst Bowl and 16th at the Yale Women’s Intersectional.

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 4) – After winning the B Division and leading the No. 12 coed sailing team to a second place overall finish at the Danmark Trophy over the weekend junior Trevor Long (Hockessin, Del.) and sophomores Marcus Abate (Kemah, Texas) and Julia Cho (Cupertino, Calif.) were selected as the New England Intercollegiate Sailing Association’s (NEISA) Coed Sailors of the Week.

    Cambridge, Mass. (October 2) - The 12th-ranked coed sailing team and the 15th-ranked women’s sailing team had an excellent weekend competed in four regattas at four different venues. The coed team finished second at the Danmark Trophy, third at the Harvard Invitational and fifth at the Smith Trophy, while the women’s squad took second at the Regis Bowl.

(September 18) - The MIT coed sailing team clinched first place at the Central Series II and fifth place at the Hatch Brown Trophy, while the women’s team finished 11th at the Stu Nelson Trophy as the Engineers competed in their second weekend of regattas on Saturday and Sunday.
  • Sailing Sees Four Named To 2016-17 ICSA All-Academic Team

    Cambridge, Mass. (September 14) – Four sailors from the MIT sailing team were honored for their excellence in competition and in the classroom by the Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) when the organization released its 2016-17 All-Academic Team selections. A total of 223 members from 50 institutions were honored this year.
  • Sailing Opens 2017 Fall Season at Six Regattas

    Cambridge, Mass. (September 11) - The MIT sailing team opened its fall season with six regattas on the schedule. The Engineers finished second at the Lark Invitational, third at the FJ Invitational, fourth at both the Toni Deutsch Trophy and the Harry Anderson Trophy, sixth at the Philip Harman Cup and 13th at the Penobscot Bay Open.
  • Sailing Announces 2017 Recruiting Class Made Up Of Nine Student-Athletes

    Cambridge, Mass. (September 7) – The MIT sailing team has announced its incoming class for the 2017-18 season as nine newcomers join the Engineers. MIT, under the direction of head coaches Matt Lindblad and Mike Kalin, is coming off a historic season which saw the Engineers win both the Coed Atlantic Coast Championship, the Boston Dinghy Challenge Cup and place eighth at the ICSA Laser Performance Team Race National Championship.
  • Sailing’s Jorlyn Le Garrec ’17 Awarded With Fulbright Scholarship

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (August 11) – Recent sailing graduate Jorlyn Le Garrec (Pittsburgh, Pa.) along with three MIT undergraduate and two other recent alumni have been awarded Fulbright U.S. Student Program grants to conduct independent research projects overseas during the coming academic year.
  • Sailing Releases 2017 Fall Schedule Ahead Of Opener On September 9

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (August 9) – The MIT coed and women’s sailing teams have announced their schedule for the 2017 fall season, which will feature nine home regattas including the New England Match Race Championship slated for Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15, 2017. The Engineers will be under the direction of co-head coaches Matt Lindblad and Mike Kalin.
