Squash Wins Season Opener Against Haverford

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT squash team opened its 2011-12 campaign on Saturday with a convincing 9-0 win over visiting Haverford College. Tech picked up straight set victories in seven of the nine matches to improve to 1-0 on the season.

Steve Cho (Lexington, Mass.) picked up an impressive and hard-earned victory in the #2 position, winning a pair of close sets before closing things out with an 11-2 third set score. Connor Kirschbaum (Suffield, Conn.) had little trouble at #7, winning 11-1, 11-6, 11-4. Abhi Mitra (Medford, Mass.) had the day's most tightly contested match, dropping two of the first three sets to Haverford's Peter Boal, before battling back for the five-set decision (8-11, 11-4, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6).

The Cardinal and Gray will host three matches next weekend at the Zesiger squash courts. The Engineers face Middlebury College on Saturday, November 19 at 4:00 p.m. before hosting Wesleyan University and Colby College on Sunday.
