PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Freshman Tyler Finkelstein (Greenwich, Conn.) was the lone representative for MIT at the College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships this weekend. He will be competing in the Molloy Division, which is taking place at UPenn from Friday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 1.
Finkelstein got things started on Friday morning at the Ring Squash Courts on UPenn's campus, facing Rishi Jalan of Cornell University in the Round of 64. Jalan won the first game, 11-4, but Finkelstein was able to win the next by a score of 11-7 before Jalan took the final two games, 11-5, 11-4 to win the match.
Later on in the day, after receiving a bye in Consol 1, Finkelstein defeated James Reiss of George Washington University in Consol 2, playing to four games for his second match of the day. Finkelstein won the first game, 13-11, before dropping the second, 9-11. With a tied match, he managed to win the remaining two games, 11-5, 11-9, to earn his first victory of the weekend.
With the first day of his first Individual Championships appearance under his belt, Finkelstein will not play another match until tomorrow, when he faces United States Navy Academy's Mitchell Bottini in the Consol Quarters in the morning.
