MIT Falls to Wesleyan and Navy

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT struggled in its first matches of the new year, falling to Wesleyan University, 7-2, and the U.S. Naval Academy, 9-0, on Friday. The Engineers now stand at 0-6 on the season.

Nikhil Khana got things rolling for Tech by defeating his Wesleyan opponent, 9-3, 9-6, 9-5, in the No. 1 spot. Right behind him, Adam Bushashia registered a 9-5, 9-3, 6-9, 9-0 victory. Despite losing, Ashwin Deshpande was the only member of the team who avoided being swept by the Cardinals.

In the second match of the day, MIT struggled against the powerful squad from Navy. Nikhil Khana and Ashwin Deshpande had the best showing for the Engineers. After dropping the first two games with identical scores of 9-1, Khana took the third game, 9-4, before falling, 9-2. Deshpande lost 9-6, 9-3, 9-5, but tallied 14 points, the against the Midshipmen.
