No. 23 Northeastern Defeats MIT, 8-1

Feb. 8, 2007

BOSTON, Mass. - Freshman Andrew Yoon came back from two games down to pick up the first victory of his collegiate career on Wednesday night, but it was the only win that the Engineers could manage against local rival Northeastern University, as they fell to the Huskies, 8-1. No. 23 nationally ranked Northeastern (6-8) had defeated Tech (1-9), 9-0, earlier this season in Cambridge.

Yoon fell behind early out of the No. 3 position to opponent Tim Heneroty, dropping the first two games, 4-9, 7-9. However, the first-year Engineer out of Hong Kong, China, roared back into the match to take the final three games, 9-3, 9-3, 9-3.

No other member of the Cardinal and Gray managed to push his match past the minimum three games.

MIT will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 10, when it travels to New London, Conn., to take on Connecticut College at 1:00 p.m. Northeastern also hits the road for its next match, a showdown with St. Lawrence University on Friday, Feb. 9.
