Squash Drops Decisions to Wesleyan and Colby

Feb. 11, 2008

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT's squash team recently competed in stand-alone matches against both Wesleyan University and Colby College, with the Engineers falling to both the Cardinals and the Mules by similar 9-0 score-lines. Tech traveled to Middletown, Conn., on Thursday evening for its meeting with Wesleyan, before returning to Cambridge to host Colby on Saturday morning.

The Engineers' record dropped to 2-9 with the pair of losses, while Wesleyan improved to 9-7 with its third straight victory and Colby moved to 7-15 with its win.

Freshman John Kucharczyk came closest to preventing the shutout against Wesleyan on Thursday evening, as the rookie won the first game from the No. 9 spot, 10-8. However, he then dropped the next three games, 9-2, 9-5, 9-0. Junior Saad Zaheer was also resilient, falling in his match from the No. 3 position, 9-7, 9-1, 9-5.

Against Colby on Saturday morning, sophomore No. 1 Andrew Yoon nearly got the Engineers off to a great start with a win in his first game, but he ultimately fell, 10-8, before dropping the next two games, 9-1, 9-3. Fellow sophomore George Pratt also put up a fight, falling 9-6, 9-2, 9-7 from the No. 5 spot.

The Engineers will conclude their regular season schedule on Tuesday, Feb. 12, when they will host Brown University at 6:30 p.m. and Northeastern University at 8:00 p.m.
