Squash Concludes Regular Season with Loss to No. 11 Brown

Feb. 16, 2007

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The No. 11 ranked Brown University men's squash team defeated visiting MIT, 9-0, in the Engineers' final regular season match on Thursday evening. As a result of the loss, Tech finished the regular season with a record of 1-11, while the Bears improved to 3-9 in the last scheduled match of their campaign.

Despite the setback, head coach Jim Taylor praised the work ethic of his team, noting that "everyone worked hard, and there were a few bright spots as a result."

Sophomore Nikhil Khanna and graduate student Ashwin Deshpande - playing out of the No. 1 and 2 spots, respectively - showed moments of skill, but were unable to develop a rhythm and string points together. Freshman Andrew Yoon, who has been a consistent competitor out of the No. 3 spot recently, regained his composure and battled valiantly following a shaky first game.

Kunal Dusad, Jehan DeFonseka and Wajahat Khan played well in stretches, while junior David Baumgartner forced his opponent into many long, hard-fought points.

The Cardinal and Gray will have a chance to hone its skills on Monday, Feb. 19, when it will host Tufts University for a scrimmage at 5:00 p.m. The squad will then head to New Haven, Conn., for the Men's Team National Championships from Friday, Feb. 23-Sunday, Feb. 25.
