Park Named to NEWMAC Baseball All-Conference Team

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Following last weekend’s playoff tournament, MIT junior Stewart Park was recently selected by the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) to the 2010 Baseball All-Conference First Team. In addition, the Engineers were honored with the 2010 NEWMAC Baseball Sportsmanship Award.

Described by Coach Andy Barlow as the “catalyst” of his team and known for his speed on the bases, Park led the conference with 8 steals in NEWMAC play and has racked up 15 overall this season. Currently averaging .300 from the plate, Park excelled during conference play, batting .361 with a .410 on-base percentage.

Park’s selection is the second of his career, accompanying his appearance on the 2008 First-Team. MIT has now placed at least one player on the NEWMAC First Team in each of the last five years.

For the second-straight year, MIT was also honored with the NEWMAC Baseball Sportsmanship Award.

Other award winners included sophomore Dan Haugh of Wheaton College, who was named Player of the Year, and senior Michael O’Brien of Babson College was tabbed Pitcher of the Year.
