CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – With spring just around the corner, the arrival of the 2013 baseball season for MIT is not far behind as well. The Engineers will kick off the 66th season of MIT baseball in March when they host Wentworth on Wednesday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. on Briggs Field. It will be the start of a 36-game schedule for MIT, which posted its third 20-win season out of the last four in 2012 with a final record of 22-14.
After opening against Wentworth and playing a doubleheader at preseason #16 Trinity College, MIT will begin New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference play with a three-game series against Clark University on Mar. 15-16. In addition to Trinity, two other teams in the preseason Collegiate Baseball poll appear on the MIT schedule, including #1 Wheaton College. The Engineers will square off against the Lyons in a NEWMAC series in April, with #18 Wisconsin-Whitewater also appearing on the schedule in March during the team's spring trip to Florida. In addition to facing the Warhawks on that trip, MIT will also play its NEWMAC series with Springfield College, as well as non-conference games against Bard College and Western Connecticut State University.
In all MIT has 15 home games on the schedule for 2013. In addition to playing all of its NEWMAC foes at least once at home, the Engineers will also welcome Wentworth, Curry College, Amherst College, Gordon College, Fisher College, UMass Boston and Suffolk University to Briggs Field where MIT posted a 14-4 record in 2012. Other non-conference road games for MIT include dates at Endicott College, Johnson & Whales University, Wesleyan University, Worcester State University, Brandeis University and Rhode Island College.
Opening games of the annual NEWMAC Tournament will be held on April 27, with the semifinals on May 4 and the championship game on May 5. MIT will wrap up its regular season on May 6 when it hosts Suffolk University at 4:00 p.m.
