BOSTON, Mass. – After tossing a complete game, one-hit shutout, freshman David Hesslink (San Diego, Calif.) was named the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Pitcher of the Week today. It is the second time this season that an MIT student-athlete has been honored with a weekly baseball award by the league.
In just the third collegiate start of his career, Hesslink tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout in the second game of the doubleheader at Clark on Sunday. He allowed just a two-out single in the first inning and then retired the next 13 hitters before issuing a walk to the lead off hitter in the sixth. He struck out five while allowing four walks as he improved to 2-0.
