  • Filiere Earns Cape League's Manny Robello 10th Player Award; Leads Mariners to East Division Crown

    HARWICH, Mass. - Before the Harwich Mariners regular season finale on Wednesday evening, MIT rising junior Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) was honored with the league's Manny Robello 10th Player Award. Filiere, who is the only NCAA Division III student-athlete playing on the Cape this summer, becomes the third Division III student-athlete to earn this award and first since 1999 when James Ramshaw of Lewis and Clark University received it.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After receiving All-District honors a few weeks ago, MIT baseball juniors John Drago (Peoria, Ariz.) and David Hesslink (San Diego, Calif.) have been named Academic All-Americans, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) for their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom.

    GREENSBORO, N.C. – The postseason accolades continued for sophomore Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) and senior Alec Echevarria (Chula Vista, Calif.) following the announcement of the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III All-America and All-Region Teams. Filiere was voted to the All-America third team after securing a spot on the All-New England first team while Echevarria earned All-New England second team honors.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Top-seeded MIT generated eight runs in the seventh inning and then thwarted No. 2 WPI’s late rally to hold on for a 9-8 victory in the ECAC New England Division III Baseball Championship on Sunday. Junior David Hesslink (San Diego, Calif.) was named the Most Outstanding Player for the tournament as he earned a complete game win in MIT’s semifinal match-up with Massachusetts Maritime Academy, totaling seven strikeouts, seven hits, and two walks.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After receiving a first-round bye in the ECAC New England Division III Baseball Championship Tournament, top-seeded MIT defeated No. 4 Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 7-1, at O’Brien Field on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers (22-14) will host No. 2 WPI in the championship game at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Buccaneers, meanwhile, closed their season with a record of 24-16.

    CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT rattled off 10 runs during the first three innings en route to a 14-7 non-conference baseball victory over Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) on Thursday. Sophomore Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) went 3-for-3 while tallying a pair of doubles, runs, walks, and one RBI for the Engineers (21-14). Greg Emanuelson led the way for the Monks (26-15) with a 2-for-3 performance that included two RBI.
