  • David Hesslink Selected in the 34th Round of the MLB Draft by the Seattle Mariners

    Secaucus, N.J. (June 14) -- MIT senior pitcher David Hesslink (San Diego, Calif.) has been selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 34th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Hesslink joins teammate Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) as selections in this year’s draft as he is just the fourth player in MIT history to be drafted. Filiere was picked on Tuesday by the Chicago Cubs.

(June 13) -- MIT junior shortstop Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) has been selected by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. Filiere is just the third MIT player to be drafted and first since 2001 alumnus Jason Szuminski, who was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 27th round in 2000.

    Austin, Texas (June 1) -- MIT baseball players John Drago (Peoria, Ariz.), Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) and David Hesslink (San Diego, Calif.) have all been named to the 2017 Academic All-America Division III Baseball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA). The Engineers lead all of Division III with three student-athletes earning this award.

(May 8) -- MIT junior shortstop Austin Filiere (Chandler, Ariz.) has been named as the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Baseball Player of the Year and freshman outfielder Matt Johnston (Portola Valley, Calif.) has earned league Rookie of the Year honors. Overall, the Engineers placed five players on the All-Conference Teams, which is the most in the conference.
  • Baseball Falls at Babson 14-8 in NEWMAC Championship

    In game two of the NEWMAC Championship Series on Sunday afternoon, Babson used a seven-run eighth inning to break open a one-run game, en route to a 14-8 victory over MIT as the Beavers won the best-of-3 series by a 2-0 margin. For MIT, the Engineers end the season at 21-14-1 overall after appearing in the NEWMAC Championship for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

    After a two and a half hour rain delay, an eighth-inning solo homer for Babson proved to be the difference as the MIT baseball team dropped a 3-2 final to the Beavers in game of the NEWMAC Baseball Championship Series on Saturday afternoon.
