Mike Vasquez
Mike Vasquez
Title: Assistant Coach
Year: 1st Year
College: MIT '08

Entering his first season as an assistant coach, Vasquez will help with all aspects of the program. In particular, he will work with MIT's pitchers who will undoubtedly benefit from his experience as both a starting and relief pitcher for the Engineers. During his four year career at MIT, Vasquez served a key role for Head Coach Andy Barlow. In his final two seasons he was the team's top relief pitcher and was called upon to secure outs in some very important game situations. In 2008 Vasquez led the team and ranked amongst the NEWMAC league leaders in saves with 4. During his career Vasquez also had wins over regional powers such as Babson and Williams and currently holds MIT's all-time record for appearances with 56. Even more impressive than any of his personal statistics is the fact that Vasquez, who captained the team in 2008, played a large role in MIT's resurgence onto the New England baseball scene. His contributions on and off the field were a key ingredient in MIT's first ever back-to-back 20 win seasons and ECAC appearances. The most notable team accomplishment, however, was the program's first ever appearance in the NEWMAC Championship game in 2006 where the Engineers were defeated by World Series runner-up and #2 nationally ranked Wheaton College. Mike currently resides in Boston and is working towards his master's degree from MIT.
