April 10, 2007

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Junior righthander Jay Turner was named NEWMAC Co-Pitcher of the Week after a sensational start at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Turner tossed the first complete-game shutout of his career against the Bears as MIT topped Coast Guard, 2-0, on Friday.

Turner (2-0) scattered six hits while walking one and striking out three in leading MIT to its first-ever 3-0 start in league play. The Engineers are 3-0 this season when Turner starts, while the junior has hurled two complete-game victories. Prior to the new campaign, Turner never went the distance in 14 previous starts.

Turner has allowed only four walks in 23 innings pitched, while his ERA is currently a career-low 3.13.
