CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Sophomore outfielder Jason Witzberger became the second player for MIT baseball to earn conference Player of the Week honors after a gigantic week that boosted his batting average nearly 60 points and set the stage for a perfect 4-0 weekend.
Witzberger completed the exceptional seven-day stretch with a dominating performance against Elms. Reaching base nine times in 10 at bats, Witzberger compiled seven hits, seven runs, six stolen bases and three RBI in two wins versus the Blazers.
The day before, Witzberger delivered the biggest hit of the afternoon in MIT's sweep over Coast Guard, driving home the game-tying run with a two-out, two-strike single in the bottom of the seventh. Against the Bears, Witzberger was 3-for-6 with two walks and a double.
For the week, Witzberger was 14-for-24 with 12 runs scored and seven stolen bases. He hit safely in all six games last week and has reached base in all 17 games he has played this season.
