NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Engineers capped league play with three All-Conference honors from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Juniors Wayne Duggan and Kyle Zeller, along with sophomore Jason Witzberger were named to the league's Second Team following MIT's best season in the conference's seven-year history.
Duggan has been a two-time NEWMAC Player of the Week and was ranked fifth in the league's batting race and second in ERA. Zeller was arguably the top catcher in the Conference, and was among the top ten in batting average, homeruns and RBI. Witzberger also enjoyed a stellar campaign, reaching base safely in 25 of 26 games at the time of the voting. He also led the NEWMAC in stolen bases and runs scored.
Wheaton College, which won the NEWMAC regular season and tournament Championship, won all three major awards. Senior Keith Cooper, who batted .392 with 10 doubles and 23 RBI, was named NEWMAC Player of the Year for the second straight season. Third Baseman Scott Guillerault, who hit .367 with four homers and 38 RBI was named Rookie of the Year, while Lyons' head coach Eric Podbelski was named Coach of the Year.
