CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomores Will Tahsman and Mitchell Kates were recently named to the Men's Basketball All-America team by the Jewish Sports Review. Kates and Tashman, who each garnered All-Conference accolades in their second season in Cambridge, were selected to the All-America squad for Divisions II, III and NAIA institutions.
Tashman, who a First Team New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) and Third Team All-Region honoree, led the Cardinal and Gray and the NEWMAC in rebounding (8.9 RPG) and raised his scoring average by over five points per game from his rookie campaign (14.1 PPG). The sophomore was also named the tournament Most Outstanding Player after helping the Engineers capture their second conference championship in three years.
Kates was Tech's top scorer at 15.6 points per game while helping to facilitate league's highest scoring offense from his point guard position. A Second Team All-Conference pick, Kates was the top assist man for MIT and averaged over two steals per contest as well.
Tashman and Kates were joined on the All-America team by Jon Greenberg of the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, Andrew Stein from New York University and Jess Winter from Cortland State University.
