CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the second consecutive season, MIT senior center Noel Hollingsworth (Salt Lake City, Utah) has been named to the D3Hoops Preseason All-America men's basketball team. Hollingsworth, a second team All-America selection two seasons ago, missed all but six games last year due to injury.
In limited action last year, Hollingsworth averaged 15.5 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game while connecting on 49.3% of his attempts from the field. However, as a sophomore, the transfer from Brown University was one of the top big men in the country, scoring over 20 points and grabbing nine rebounds per contest, both of which led the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). Hollingsworth had 13 double-doubles and five games of at least 30 points, including a career-high 37 against Babson.
After his sophomore campaign, Hollingsworth was named the NEWMAC Player of the Year and first team all-conference, a first team all-region selection by D3Hoops and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and a second team All-American by the NABC.
The Engineers are well suited to make a run toward their fourth straight NCAA Division III tournament appearance in 2012. In addition to Hollingsworth, the Cardinal and Gray returns its top six scorers from a year ago, including NEWMAC all-conference picks, Mitchell Kates (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Will Tashman (Atherton, Calif.). Tech opens its season on November 15 on the road at Curry College.
