CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The MIT men's basketball team will open its season as a top 10 team in the country, after the Engineers were ranked 10th in the D3Hoops.com Preseason Top 25. The Cardinal and Gray returns its top six scorers from a year ago, including preseason All-America selection Noel Hollingsworth (Salt Lake City, Utah).
The reigning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) champions, coach Larry Anderson's squad will be looking to earn a bid to the NCAA Division III tournament for the fourth consecutive season. In addition to Hollingsworth, NEWMAC all-conference honorees Mitchell Kates (Colts Neck, N.J.) and Will Tashman (Atherton, Calif.) will bolster the experienced squad.
"We're pleased to be recognized as a top 10 team in the country," Anderson remarked. "We do realize that, throughout the course of the season, we have to earn that ranking. Our goal is to be one of the top teams in the country by season's end."
This is the highest debut ranking for the Engineers, who were 15th in last year's preseason poll.
