CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The nationally-ranked No. 3 MIT men's basketball team will once again hit the road for the NCAA Division III tournament, traveling to Hartwick College for opening round play this weekend. The Engineers will face Skidmore College (19-8) in the first round on Friday, March 2 at 5:30 p.m. Host Hartwick (23-3) will play Farmingdale State (22-5) in the other first round matchup, with the winners advancing to round two on Saturday. Saturday's game will begin at 7:00 p.m.

MIT (25-1) earned the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference's (NEWMAC) automatic berth after defeating Springfield College, 65-60, in yesterday's NEWMAC championship game. The Cardinal and Gray has now captured three NEWMAC titles in the past four years, including two in a row. At 25-1, Tech has already surpassed the previous program record for wins in a season.

Senior Noel Hollingsworth (Salt Lake City, Utah) leads the way in scoring (17.0 points per game) and is one of five Tech players averaging double figures. Junior Mitchell Kates (Colts Neck, N.J.) leads the team in assists with 5.0 a game and is second in scoring (13.2 ppg). Kates was named the Most Outstanding Player of the NEWMAC tournament, after averaging 21.5 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in a pair of games.

Skidmore sports a balanced attack, with four players averaging 10+ points, led by senior Terron Victoria (Albany, N.Y.) at 11.8 per game. The Thoroughbreds upset top-seeded Hobart to win their second straight Liberty League title and earn the automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Skidmore has won six straight entering the postseason and its 19 wins are the program's highest total since the program began Division III play in 1985.
