Kates, Hollingsworth Named Preseason All-Americans

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A pair of seniors on the MIT men's basketball team have been recognized as players to watch in the upcoming 2012-13 basketball season. Seniors Mitchell Kates (Colts Neck, N.J) and Noel Hollingsworth (Salt Lake City, Utah) were both named to the preseason All-America team by D3hoops.com. Kates was named to the third team while Hollingsworth earned fourth team honors.

Kates earned both fourth team All-America and first team All-NEWMAC honors after the 2011-12 season when he averaged 14.2 points and 5.4 assists a game. Hollingsworth was a first team All-NEWMAC selection and led the Engineers in scoring with his 17.2 ppg average while also leading the squad with 54 blocked shots. The pair were key components to MIT's record-breaking season that saw the team reach the Division III Final Four and finish with a 29-2 record, setting a school record for wins as well as capturing its second straight New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference championship.

The Engineers will play an exhibition at Harvard this Friday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. before opening the season at Lesley University on November 15 at 8:00 p.m. MIT will play its first home game of the 2012-13 season against Emmanuel College on November 20 at 8:00 p.m.
