WELLESELY, Mass. – Sophomore Matt Redfield (Los Altos, Calif.) has made it back-to-back New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week awards as he was named to the honor today by the league office. Redfield averaged 19 points and 12 rebounds in a pair of games for MIT since December 17, both victories for the Engineers.
Redfield continued his mid-season surge with a pair of outstanding games for MIT. After setting a new career-high in points on Dec. 13, the sophomore upped that by one by dropping in 19 points in MIT's wins at LaVerne University and at Wheaton College. Not only did Redfield set a career best in points during the New Year's Eve win against LaVerne, he also established another new personal best with 15 rebounds. He then came back in the NEWMAC opener at Wheaton with a 19-point, nine-rebound effort to help the Engineers to an important conference road win. In the two contests Redfield shot 62.5 percent from the floor and blocked five shots.
Redfield and the rest of the Engineers will be back in action tomorrow, traveling to Springfield College for a NEWMAC matchup with the Pride at 7:00 p.m.
