Boston, Mass. (December 12) -- MIT senior forward Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) has been named as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his play in a trio of wins last week.
For the week, Butala shot 41.7 percent from the field while averaging a team-best 19.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. He opened the week with a 19-point, 12-rebound double-double in a win over Lasell, followed by a 21-point, six-rebound performance in a home victory over Emmanuel. Butala closed the week out in a road victory at Rhode Island College as he posted 18 points and four rebounds.
For the season, Butala is averaging 14 points and 6.3 rebounds per game as the Engineers are currently on a six-game winning streak and sit at 7-2 overall. Butala is shooting 41.7 percent from the field, 92.6 percent from the free throw line and so far has posted a pair of double-doubles and has finished in double figures in seven straight games.
MIT is back in action on Tuesday, December 13th as the Engineers travel to UMass Dartmouth for a non-conference matchup beginning at 7 p.m.
