BABSON PARK, Mass. - Sophomore Zach Etten led all players with 19 points to lead Babson College to a 72-59 victory over visiting MIT in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's basketball contest at Staake Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers improved to 10-6 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Engineers dropped to 8-9 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC.
The game remained close throughout most of the first half, but Babson closed out the period with a 10-2 run to take a 35-25 advantage at the break. Senior co-captain Brandon Eigenberg keyed the run with a pair of three-pointers, including one with five seconds remaining in the half. The Beavers pushed their lead to 16 in the opening three minutes of the second half, and MIT got no closer than 10 the rest of the way as Babson came away with the 72-59 victory.
Etten shot 7-for-11 from the field, including a 3-for-5 clip from long range, for his game-high 19 points. The sophomore forward also collected six rebounds, three assists, three steals, and two blocks. Junior Greg Bush added 11 points and five boards for the Beavers, while Eigenberg finished with 10 points and three assists. Sophomore Norm de Silva also had a solid game for Babson, dishing out a game-high six assists.
