June 16, 2009

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Recent MIT graduate, Jimmy Bartolotta, will join the Italian professional basketball club Angelico Biella for 10 days this week, culminating in a three-day tournament with some of the top teams in Italy. The 2009 Jostens Trophy recipient and Division III National Player of the Year will work out with the squad before playing in three games in as many days, beginning June 17.

Angelico Biella competes in Serie A, the top professional league in Italy and advanced to the semifinals of the Serie A playoffs this past season. Its current roster is comprised of a number of former NBA and NCAA Division I players including former University of Maryland standout James Gist and Louisville alum Reece Gaines, the 15th overall pick in the 2003 NBA Draft who spent parts of two seasons with the Orlando Magic and Houston Rockets.

Bartolotta graduated MIT as the most decorated player in the history of the men's basketball program. The two-time CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-American became the Institute's all-time scoring leader, finishing his career with over 2,200 points. He also owns school records for career steals and three-point field goals and his 43 points versus Curry College is a single-game high. As a senior, he helped lead the Engineers to the NEWMAC Championship and earn their first NCAA Tournament berth.
