CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT's heavyweight and
lightweight crews split the nation's top weekly rowing honor as
each team's varsity eight was named row2k Crew of the Week.
The Engineers knocked off a pair of EARC opponents to provide
further testimony of the program's rise among the elite
intercollegiate teams in the country. The heavyweights stunned No.
12 Boston University while the lightweights dropped No. 10 Penn.
The victory for the lightweights actually moved the squad inside
the top 10 in the latest EARC poll (No. 9).
Row2k received several nominations for each crew after the terrific
results and no one knew exactly when the last time MIT had defeated
their respective opponent other than it had been a "very long time"
for each. The website did receive one response stating that the
last MIT heavyweight victory over BU occured in the petite finals
of the 1993 IRA.
