CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT returned to its home venue of the Charles River for the first time during the spring racing season. Taking on Boston College, Bates College and Trinity College, the Engineers fielded crews in the varsity 8, freshman 8 and freshman 4 races this morning.
In the first race of the day, the varsity 8 competition, Trinity crossed the line first, edging Bates by less than three seconds. Batting with Boston College for third, MIT missed overtaking the Eagles by six and a half seconds.
Next up was the freshman 4 race, with Bates, BC and MIT making up the field. Bates had the edge at the finish, bettering the crews from MIT and BC by a wide margin. The Eagles and Engineers battled throughout the race, with BC gaining a three second advantage at the finish.
MIT had another strong outing from its freshman 8 crew as it battled Trinity and BC. In the end it was Trinity that came out on top, but by a margin that was less than three seconds. Boston College finished nearly 16 seconds behind the Engineers.
