MIT Crew Set to Open 2012-13 Season at The Head of the Charles Regatta

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Crew season officially opens this weekend for the MIT crew teams as all four will have entries in one of the most famous regattas in the world, the annual Head of the Charles competition. MIT will have crews in action on both Saturday and Sunday in the world's largest two-day rowing event.

MIT will begin competition on Saturday in Event 16 (12:55 p.m.), the Women's Club Fours in which the Engineers' lightweight team will field a team that has a bow number of 42. Shortly thereafter the men's heavyweight team will field an entry in the Men's Club Eights (Event 17, 1:20 p.m.) that will have a bow number of 19.

On Sunday the first MIT crew to race will be another men's heavyweight squad in the Men's Championship Eights (Event 48, 2:55 p.m.) with a bow number of 25. The Women's Championship Eights (Event 49, 3:08 p.m.) will feature the next MIT entry, a women's openweight crew that will sport a bow number of 36. Later in the afternoon the MIT men's lightweight team will make its season debut, competing in the Men's Lightweight Eights (Event 54, 4:38 p.m.) with a bow number of 14. Closing out the competition for MIT will be the women's lightweight team competing in the Women's Lightweight Eights (Event 55, 4:45 p.m.), displaying bow number 6.
