CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The MIT men's heavyweight crew team competed in its final home regatta of the season against Boston University and the University of Wisconsin on Saturday morning. The Engineers entered two varsity 8 boats and a varsity 4 in the 2k course.
In the first varsity 8 heat, MIT completed the course with a time of 6:18.3, cutting almost a full second off the time they raced at home last weekend. Wisconsin was second with a time of 5:42.8 and BU was first with a 5:39.6. In the next heat, the MIT B boat also came in third place in 6:19.7, taking off over six seconds from the last time they raced. Wisconsin came second in 5:49.5 and BU was first in 5:48.0.
It was a race between BU and MIT in the final event of the day, the varsity 4 race. Boston University came first with a time of 6:56.7 and the Engineers were second with a 7:10.9, improving on their time of 7:16 from last weekend's regatta against Trinity, Colgate and URI.
The Cardinal and Gray will have a slight break from the water, returning on Sunday, May 19 when they travel to Worcester, Mass. for the third time this season to race in the EARC Sprints on Lake Quinsigamond.
