CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – MIT's heavyweight crew team braved the wind and the rain to finish first in each of its races against the University of Delaware, the University of Rhode Island, and UMass on the Charles River on Saturday morning. Tech entered two Varsity 8s and one Varsity 4 boat in the home event.
With all four teams present in the first Varsity 8 race, the Engineers completed the course first with a time of 5:57.2 and were followed by Delaware in second with its 6:03.7. URI placed third in 6:07.4 and UMass was fourth in 6:14.8.
Tech came from behind in the second Varsity 8, clocking a 6:08.3 to Delaware's 6:10.3. UMass came third with a time of 6:36.6. In MIT's final race of the day, its Varsity 4 crew finished with a 7:20.1, 10 seconds ahead of UMass in 7:30.5.
