MIT Names Jeff Forrester as Men’s Lightweight Assistant Coach
Cambridge, Mass. – Jeff Forrester has joined the MIT men's crew coaching staff as the Richard J. Resch, '61 Freshman Lightweight Coach it was announced today. Forrester takes over for Jeff Iqbal who, having completed a masters degree in aeronautics and astronautics at MIT while serving as assistant coach during the 2010-11 season, has moved on to Seattle to begin a career with Boeing.
"We are extremely excited to have Jeff join the coaching staff," said Head Lightweight Coach Will Oliver. "His experience as a lightweight rower and coach will be hugely beneficial for our program."
Forrester comes to the Engineers with a wealth of coaching and rowing experience. Most recently he worked at Riverside Boat Club in Cambridge as the Men's Sweep Coach. He has also coached Riverside's Sculling and High Performance Groups, preparing numerous athletes for national and international competition.
Forrester rowed for Rutgers from 1995-1999, earning a silver medal at the IRA regatta in his senior year. After college he competed on the national and international levels, earning multiple gold medals at Elite Nationals, Canadian Henley, and the Head of the Charles. He represented the United States at the 2007 World Championships in Munich in the Lightweight 8, where he placed fifth.
