PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - For the second weekend in a row, the MIT men's lightweight crew team competed in two races. Early on Saturday morning, the Engineers faced Drexel University and, that afternoon, Tech won two of its three races against UPenn, with both events taking place on the Schuylkill River.
To open the day against Drexel, MIT's third Varsity 8 boat was third in 6:28.7, finishing less than a second behind Drexel's 3V in 6:27.8 and its 1F with a time of 6:22.3. In the second Varsity 8, the Dragons completed the course in 5:56.8, while the Engineers followed with a 6:09.9. Tech picked up a win in the Varsity 8 race, finishing with a time of 5:46.2 to Drexel's 5:47.4.
Against UPenn later in the day, in the first Varsity 8 event, the Engineers came from behind to secure the win, completing the course with a time of 5:58.7. They were followed just two seconds later by UPenn in 6:00.7. The Quakers finished first in the second Varsity 8 with its time of 5:54.0, while MIT was second in 6:08.5. To end the day, the MIT third Varsity 8 was first in 6:29.7 and UPenn came second with a 6:39.4.
