Lights Set Sights on Spring Campaign After Solid Winter Break
Jan. 16, 2009
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT men's lightweight crew traveled to Cocoa Beach, Fla., for its annual winter training camp from December 29 to January 7. The Indian River provides miles of great water and few distractions. Rowing twice a day, the varsity and freshman squads got to apply the winter's strength and conditioning gains to boats, as well as consolidate technical changes they'd been working on in the indoor tanks. Both teams also enjoyed doing pieces with the MIT heavyweights.
In addition to training, this year's highlights included evening barbecues at the hotel; `touch' football on the beach; a Winter Park feast hosted by a team member's parents; and the annual skit night.
The squads have returned to Pierce Boathouse to resume indoor training during the Independent Activities Period.
MIT opens the 2009 season with the 30th running of the Joy Cup versus Yale and Georgetown, on April 4th in Derby, Conn.
