Solid Winter Training Readies Men's Lightweight Crew for Break-Out Spring

Feb. 10, 2006

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - MIT's lightweight men return from their training trip in Hollywood, Fla., ready for the transition into traditional winter training. The lights move from multiple practices on the water in Florida to practices on the erg, in the weight room, and on the stairs of MIT's famed Green Building.

A strong core of sophomores and juniors on the varsity are making consistent improvements in speed. New standards for speed put into place this year are aimed at rebuilding the program and building a base for success in the next couple of years. The varsity will do considerable work in fours this spring, making the whole team faster. This young team looks to improve on last year's results and take steps with an eye towards success in upcoming Eastern Sprints and IRA's.

The freshman lightweight men will benefit this spring from duels with the varsity boats while in Florida. The team has been putting in multiple practices over IAP and has shown an outstanding commitment towards getting faster.

Sprints League opponents slated for this spring include Harvard, Dartmouth, Cornell, Columbia and Yale. Also, on the schedule for the first time in recent history, is Dad Vails in Philadelphia, scheduled for early May.
